We all know the saying “a picture is worth a thousand words”. Can you imagine what a moving picture is worth? – a million? Whatever number you come up with, it just reinforces why video continues to become an important addition to your website.
Since video’s introduction into the consumer market, it has changed the way we create content. Now all you have to do is tap the video app on your smart phone and press record!
Like social media, video was first used for recreational purposes such as family movies, creative expression or just plain fun. Now we see the same technology moving into the business venture as we are finding its prominent value.
There are also many places for uploading video for free. Of course, we cannot begin without first mentioning YouTube, the second most popular search engine online. Other uploading sites are Vimeo, Flickr, Google Video, Sprout Video, MetaCafe and of course, Facebook – just to name a few.
Each one of these serves a specific niche. For your business, it will all depend on where your target audience is. If you find your audience is on Facebook and YouTube, great! If they’re also on Vimeo, then you should be as well.
So why is video so important for communicating online? Well, I’ve mentioned this several times in past blog entries, but there’s always another reason every time I think about it. Here’re a few more reasons why you should consider integrating video as part of your strategy:
Clearer Message: Ever shown a picture of a person you love or of an event and found yourself stating, “Well, this picture doesn’t do it/them justice”? Imagine the difference it would make if you could only show them a moving depiction of what you are trying to portray.
Personalization: It’s like giving your complete, undivided attention to prospects and leads. Video can allow you to create tailored messages to specific target audiences, allowing you to speak directly to them as to why you’re business is better than the competition.
Visible Performance: Ever find yourself stating, “If only I could show them how this works”. Some businesses greatly depend on product demonstrations. Now with video, you can do just that and have your prospects and leads see for themselves no matter when or where they are.
The fact of the matter is that video has many other advantages for marketing a business like its cost-effectiveness (yes, it really is), the versatility of its uses, its persuasiveness compared to most other media, control of the message being relayed, and more.
Take a look at your website and think about the many ways you can leverage video to entertain and connect with your target audience. There’s bound to be an opportunity or two. Not sure where to begin? I know someone who can help! *smirk*
